When John Zimbrick purchased a Buick franchise in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1965, he used the term “civic rent” to describe the debt he paid to the local community. This “rent” included donations of both time and money to the people of Madison that has continued to this day.
8 Ways the Zimbrick Auto Group Remains Involved in the Community
United Way of Dane County
Zimbrick is among the biggest contributors to the United Way of Dane County thanks to an annual fundraising campaign that has included golf outings, softball tournaments, poker tournaments, and more where all money raised is given to the foundation.
Zimbrick’s technicians have a lot of knowledge about cars and they aren’t afraid to share it. High school students are brought on board to work as apprentices, a college scholarship program is in place and Zimbrick employees serve as judges for local automotive clubs.
Zimbrick’s biannual blood drives are some of the largest blood drives in all of Dane County.
Meals on Wheels
Fittingly, Zimbrick employees are involved in a weekly Meals on Wheels program in the local community.
Adopt a Highway
Just as fittingly, Zimbrick employees take part in an Adopt a Highway program to maintain a section of Verona Road.
Stuffed animal drive
Every year during the holiday season, Zimbrick employees have been collecting and donating new stuffed animals to be donated to children in area hospitals.
Two particular Zimbrick employees ride some 300 miles across the state of Wisconsin every year to raise money for the fight against AIDS.
A Breast Cancer Golf Rally event, organized by a Zimbrick employee, helps raise money for the Carbone Cancer Center and the Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation. Zimbrick has also teamed up with Chevrolet for test drive events where a donation is made to the American Cancer Society for every test drive made.
The Zimbrick Way
Serving the local community has been the Zimbrick way for decades and that commitment to the people of Madison is reflected in the many awards we’ve piled up over the years for our service to our customers.

Zimbrick Community Involvement
From the beginning, Zimbrick has been a family-owned-and-operated company, and we have always found ways of giving back to the communities that we serve. We choose to be active in the community and to help out where we can. It’s why we donate to a number of local charities and host events that help to either raise money for the community, or that help to better the lives of residents in the community. (more…)

In Wisconsin, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles haven’t exactly taken off quite yet.
