Zimbrick Community Involvement | Madison WI

Why we give:

Zimbrick Inc. is a local, family owned business. When John Zimbrick purchased the Buick franchise in 1965, he understood that it was important to give back to the community. This support was done not only with money, but with personal time from our employees, what Mr. Zimbrick called “civic rent”. 50 years later, we continue give back to the community in which we live and work.

United Way

Zimbrick is proud to be one of the top ten contributors to the United Way of Dane County. This list includes businesses with large employee bases like American Family Insurance, EPIC.

This year the United Way of Dane County campaign raised more than ever before. But the support of United Way goes beyond dollars and includes a significant investment of time. In 2014, 94 Zimbrick Employees participated in United Way’s Days of Caring. Zimbrick employees gave an estimated 375 hours back to the community over 3 days.

Our United Way campaign also includes some “fun” raising, including a softball tournament, a golf outing, Texas Holder tournament where all monies raised go to the cause. In 2012, we were given a United Way Innovation award for our annual campaign in recognition of our high levels of employee involvement and creativity.

Zimbrick AYES

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Zimbrick’s investment in education helps train our next generation of outstanding employees.

Several Zimbrick service departments are involved in programs that help high school students begin automotive careers. The Automotive Youth Education System (AYES) and the state of Wisconsin’s Youth Apprenticeship programs allow students in high school to begin working within our dealerships as apprentices

Zimbrick also supports the Madison College Foundation which provides scholarships that provide the financial bridge that make higher education possible for many students.

The DECA clubs of Middleton and Monona Grove have a special relationship with Zimbrick. Our employees spend time talking with students and judging their state competition entries.

The MSCR Art Cart is a Zimbrick Sprinter. This vehicle was a gift to the Madison School and Community Recreation department and is its ongoing service and maintenance. The Art Cart is a free, travelling art program that provides creative, outdoor art-making experiences to children ages 3+ and their families.

Community Involvement is More than Just Money

Did you know that Zimbrick biannual Blood Drives are one of the largest private blood drives in Dane County? In June of 2014, we set a new record for donations. 14 double reds collected, 21 first time donors and 83 total units collected. The Red Cross estimates each unit collected can impact and save 3 lives.

Independent Living Dane County depends on volunteers from Zimbrick Honda and Zimbrick Buick GMC West to deliver meals to senior citizens. Once a week, these Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver a hot meal and a warm smile to both east and west side routes.

Adopt a Highway

Zimbrick at Fish Hatchery Road helps keep a section of Verona Road beautiful. At least three times per year, employees volunteer to clean up the section of highway adopted by Zimbrick Honda, Buick, GMC and Infiniti.

First Aid & CPR Training is offered to Zimbrick employees annually. Not only do these employees help keep our employees and customers safer in the case of an emergency, but they also take their skills with them into the community.

ACT Ride –

MINI Service Advisor Phil Keller and MINI F&I Manager Michael Christian each pedal over 300 miles across Wisconsin each year to raise money to fight AIDS. During the four day trek, Phil has raised over $13,500 and Michael $20,000.

Stuffed Animal Drive – Each December, Sonja Henricksen’s Fish Hatchery Road office is overflowing with stuffed animals. For over 17 years, Sonja has been collecting new stuffed animals for children who have to celebrate the holidays in area hospitals. These plush toys are donated by Zimbrick employees at all of stores and also go to police departments to give children in difficult situations a little comfort.

Sonja is also the chair of the Breast Cancer Golf Rally. The Fish Hatchery Road campus helps her raise funds to the Carbone Cancer Center and Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation.

Middleton Outreach Ministries (M.O.M) – The Office Manager of our Middleton stores, Steve Van, coordinated donations of over 1,000 pounds of food for the Middleton Food Pantry for the 2013 holiday season. We can’t wait to see what they will do in 2014.
