Sports car speeding down blurry street

In this day and age, sporty performance and styling simply isn’t enough. The number of sports cars on the market continue to rise, and in an effort to compete, automakers are introducing new features that help to set their sports car offering apart from the rest. One way that many manufacturers are doing this is by adding a Sport Mode that, as the name suggests, makes the performance of the vehicle just that much sportier. To give you a better idea about what the mode is, let’s look at its features and benefits.

Although most sports cars do provide a sporty performance whether or not they are placed in Sport Mode, the special mode really helps to ramp up the vehicle’s capabilities. The mode is typically activated by a button or knob if there are a few other driving modes, or by flipping through some menus on the screen of the infotainment system. As soon as it’s turned on, certain systems are adapted accordingly.

Each Sport Mode is different. While some may give you access to the full range of engine power, others may just adjust the throttle response and tighten up the steering. It’s all really dependent on how the car drives outside of Sport Mode, and how the manufacturer has the mode programmed. Here are a few common capabilities that you can expect to see from sports cars that are equipped with Sport Mode.

What Features Does Sport Mode Provide?

  • Increased throttle response
  • Faster acceleration
  • Higher-RPM shifts
  • Stiffer suspension
  • Tighter steering
  • Increased horsepower and torque

Pros and Cons of Sport Mode-Equipped Cars

As you can see from the list of capabilities, there are quite a few benefits that can come from turning Sport Mode on. The level of performance that can be achieved is second to none, and it makes any car even more fun to drive. There is, unfortunately, one downside to turning Sport Mode on. Capabilities such as faster acceleration and increased horsepower and torque put more strain on the engine, which, in turn, leads to higher fuel consumption. The decrease in fuel efficiency is ultimately the reason that Sport Mode is a feature that can be turned on and off. It wouldn’t be practical as a full-time system.

If you are interested in learning more about Sport Mode, or want to test out a vehicle that is equipped with the one-of-a-kind mode, we encourage you to get in touch with one of our many Madison-area Zimbrick locations, where you will find a great deal of new and used vehicles available with Sport Mode.

With brands such as Acura, Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Nissan, Porsche and Volkswagen, we have plenty of sports cars in our new car inventory, and whether or not they come with Sport Mode, we can promise you that you’ll enjoy the performance that they’re capable of delivering.

Car going through car wash

When you pull up to most car washes, you’ll notice that you have two options: the soft touch or the touch-free version. Both will wash your car, but there are some distinct differences between the two. You can gather the main difference just be reading the names, but there are some other differences that you should know about.

Let’s take a look.

Soft Touch vs. Touch-free Car Washes

Soft Touch Car Wash Benefits

Soft touch washes use foam created by mild soap and felt-cloth rollers to get all of that pesky dirt off of the outside of your vehicle. Computer-controlled pressure and detergents with particular pH balances combine to help break the bond of the surface contaminants. High-pressure water is then used to blast away all of the loosened dirt and grime.

Touch-free Car Wash Benefits

Touchless car washes use the Hi/Lo method, which consists of a very high pH alkaline soap and a low pH acid. The high pH chemical “cooks” the car and the low pH acid then covers the high pH soap. This process creates a chemical reaction that helps to shake all of the dirt and grime loose without the use of any foam rollers. It’s all cleared from the vehicle with high-pressure water.

The benefit to touch-free washes is that there is nothing actually touching the vehicle. So if you’re concerned about any scratches or any of the rollers damaging your car, you should consider the touch-free option.

Man cleaning windshield with spray bottle and rag

With the weather warming up, your house isn’t the only thing in your life that needs a little spring cleaning. Don’t forget about your car.

With milder temperatures on the horizon, you’ve got places to go and fun things to do, so you’ll be spending plenty of time on the road. That’s why you’ll want to keep your car as squeaky-clean and clutter-free as possible.

But where do you get started? Read our list below to find out.

A List of Things to Tidy Up When Spring Cleaning Your Car

Windshield

The winter precipitation has likely taken a toll on your windshield, so cleaning your glass will increase your visibility for the season ahead. Apply glass cleaner, wipe with a microfiber cloth, and buff with a clean rag.

Once the windshield has dried, you can take it a step further by spraying rain repellent solution and buffing again.

The cowl

Most of last fall’s leaves are gone — except the ones stuck in your cowl, which is located at the base of your windshield. Any unwanted debris there can clog your fresh air intake and lead to a slew of other problems. You’ll want to clear out your engine compartment and the surrounding area.

Floor mats

Unless they’re an all-weather grade, your floor mats have probably taken a beating from the slush you’ve dragged in with you during the winter. Freshen them up with stain remover and throw them in the washing machine — unless the manufacturer advises otherwise.

Floorboards and storage compartments

Everyone can relate to finding a stray water bottle — or ten — in the floorboard. Go through your cabin and remove all disposable and recyclable waste. You’ll be happy you did so — and so will your passengers.

Upholstery

If your upholstery is vinyl, a toothbrush is a good trick for removing any embedded dirt. You’ll want to use dish soap or something equally non-abrasive so that you don’t damage the material. Speaking of toothbrush…

Cushions

A toothbrush also comes in handy for getting the pesky dirt from between your cushions. Once you’ve loosened the particles from the cracks and crevices of your seats, you’ll want to go behind with a vacuum to make sure nothing lingers and resettles.

A/C vents

Toothbrushes aren’t the only improvised cleaning tools that can help you with your car. A cheap foam brush is perfect for dusting your AC vents. Spring is difficult enough for a lot of people — thanks to pollen — so you don’t want to be breathing in any unnecessary irritants. Be sure to vacuum as you go so that the dust doesn’t settle elsewhere.

Car driving down country road

Winter may have a few tricks left up its sleeve before warmer temperatures set in, but spring will officially make its arrival before you know it. We know you’re excited to get out on the road more. And you should be. Aside from bizarre circumstances, ice and snow will soon be matters of the past — but spring comes with its own unique set of driving challenges.

Learn how to address them below.

5 Springtime Driving Tips to Help You Stay Safe on the Road

Don’t let April showers rain on your parade

Spring showers may not turn roads icy, but they still leave driving surfaces slippery. Slick roads drastically reduce your car’s handling, traction, and ability to stop, while puddles increase your odds of hydroplaning. Don’t tailgate. Drive five to ten mph slower than normal, and allow a distance of at least four seconds between yourself and the car ahead.

April showers can also limit visibility, so it’s important that your windshield wipers are up to snuff. At Zimbrick, we’re happy to install manufacturer-approved wiper blades and offer a variety of other spring car services.

Share the road with your fellow commuters

You’re not the only one who’s excited to get out of the house and take advantage of that extra hour of daylight. Spring summons runners, walkers, bikers, cyclists, and general outdoor enthusiasts alike. That’s why extra caution when turning, parking, and passing is advised.

Keep your eyes peeled for your furry friends, too

Spring brings everyone out of the woodwork — literally. As animals awake from hibernation, you’ll want to pay close attention to your surroundings. Bears, deer, and other critters don’t often look both ways before crossing the street. That’s why staying conscious — especially around dusk and dawn — is of the utmost importance.

Don’t fall victim to post-winter wear and tear

Winter might technically be out the door at the end of March, but its effects are lingering. Snow plows are known to damage roads and leave potholes. That spells trouble for your tires and the alignment of your car. Avoid potholes when possible and drive more slowly so that you can allow yourself time for evasive maneuvers.

Learn about the side effects of spring medications

Spring is a rejuvenating season for some, but a miserable one for others — thanks to seasonal allergies. While most people tolerate allergy medications with no noticeable effect, others are particularly sensitive. If you take antihistamines, gauge how they affect you before you hit the road. Never drive if a medication makes you too drowsy.

Your car is your pride and joy, so you want it to reflect that everywhere you go — especially with warmer weather taking hold. It’s not always easy to make that happen, thanks to pollen, rainwater stains, bird droppings, and grime left over from winter.

Taking your car to a drive-thru washer might sound like a quick and easy fix, but it can actually have the opposite effect of what you’re going for. So how do you wash your car like a pro? We’ve got a few tricks for you below.

5 Definite Dos for Your Spring Cleaning Car Wash

Clean while the car is cool

It might be tempting to give your car a bath after a long drive, but hitting it with the suds after it’s had time to warm up is a no-no. Washing it after it’s been in direct sunlight for a while should also be avoided. Why? Because a hot surface will cause the soapy water to dry faster, leaving stains and deposits in its place.

Rinse well before you begin

It might sound counterintuitive since you’re going to give your car a full wash anyway, but you should perform a thorough water-only rinse before you get to the nitty-gritty. Otherwise, if there’s any loose dirt or debris, it can cause scratching on your car’s body.

Use a car-specific cleaner

Online do-it-yourself gurus might suggest alternative products for achieving that like-new shine, but when it comes to your car, it’s best to stick to car-specific cleaners. That means household items like dishwashing detergent or hand soap are off limits. While good for a variety of tasks, these products can strip your car’s paint if you’re not careful. Car-specific cleaners are much milder.

Wash with a non-abrasive sponge or towel

You want to remove any pesky dirt from your car, but you don’t want to remove its beautiful finish. That’s why you should use a large soft sponge and wash section by section in a lengthwise motion. Doing so will drastically reduce your chances of leaving scratch marks.

Dry the car by hand

You’ll be itching to take your car for a stroll once you’ve got it looking so sleek, but you should resist the urge until you’ve dried it off. Letting it air dry or taking it for a spin while it’s still dripping wet will cause watermarks.

You’ve come this far. Make the extra effort and use a terry towel or chamois to hand dry it yourself.

Dad handing graduating daughter keys to car

Spring commencement is right around the corner, and you’re running out of ideas for what to buy your future high school or college graduate. They’re about to embark on the road to the real world, so what could be better than a car?

You’re on a budget, and they’re just starting out, so buying new probably isn’t the best option. Luckily, a used car, truck, or SUV is a great alternative. Keep reading to find out why a pre-owned vehicle is an ideal gift to give your grad before they turn their tassel.

5 Reasons to Reward Your Grad With a Used Car

Endless choices

You don’t have to shop new to get all of the options your graduate wants. In fact, if you’re looking for a model or feature that’s been discontinued for one reason or another, buying used is the only way to go.

At Zimbrick, we offer over 800 cars across a variety of brands, so your options will never be limited when you pick us.

Lower price points

On average, used cars are much cheaper than their newer counterparts, which is good news for both you and your grad. Even if you’re just putting a down payment on a car before handing over the responsibility, you’re still leaving your grad with a more reasonable payment plan. Since there’s a significant chance they’ll be paying back student loans, they’ll be grateful for all the help they can get.

Less depreciation

If you buy your grad a new car, its value will depreciate at a faster rate than a used alternative — especially in the first year. This might not seem like a big deal, but it makes all the difference in the world when the time comes for them to trade-in and upgrade to a newer model. Improve their resale value by purchasing pre-owned.

Improved conditions

Used cars nowadays are in better shape than they’ve ever been, thanks to advances in technology and engineering. It’s not unheard of for a car to reach 200,000 miles and beyond. So, while buying a car with a clean slate is nice, it’s not necessary like it once was.

The Zimbrick Difference

You can find a used car at almost any dealership, but at Zimbrick, we offer the best car-buying experience. When you choose us, you and your grad will enjoy a complimentary tank of gas, the CARFAX® Vehicle History Report, and more. We understand how exciting this time is, so we don’t hit you with any unpleasant surprises.

Woman blowing her nose

With the weather warming up and things budding all around you, spring is a beautiful time of year. But what’s decidedly less appealing is the thick green and yellow layer of pollen accumulating on your car’s hood — especially if you have pollen allergies.

Roughly 8.2% of people are diagnosed with hay fever, a reaction triggered by allergens. Driving with the distraction of watery eyes, a runny nose, and unrelenting sneezing isn’t good for anyone. So what can you do to reduce these symptoms? We have a few things in mind.

5 Great Tips for Driving With Springtime Allergies

Check the weather every morning

Being prepared is your first and perhaps best line of defense against allergies. Many weather-reporting outlets forecast daily pollen counts and air quality outlooks. If you’re sensitive to tree or grass pollen, limit your time outdoors or take other precautionary measures when levels are higher than normal.

Stick to your spring-cleaning regimen

Spring cleaning is important for everyone, but it’s an even bigger deal for those with seasonal allergies. You’ll want to clean all things that might collect allergens — from floor mats and seating surfaces to your vents and car exterior. Doing so will limit the amount of pollen, dust, and other irritants that live in your car.

Replace your air filters

With all of the items on your routine maintenance list, it’s easy to overlook or forget about your air filters. But if your air filters are dirty, there’s a good chance they’re not filtering out pollen, mold, pet dander, and more. We can replace them for you and restore the clean air in your cabin.

Properly seal your car

One of the best ways of keeping allergies out of your life is to make sure they don’t get into your car in the first place. Roll your windows up and confirm that the weather stripping on your car is creating the proper seal. While you’re driving, make sure your air conditioning is turned to the recirculate setting so that no airborne substances are being pulled in from outside.

Be mindful of your medication

Medications come in handy this time of year, but that doesn’t mean they should be taken lightly. Since medications like antihistamines can cause drowsiness, you should read the label and talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using. To be on the safe side, do a trial run off the road with any medication before you hop behind the wheel.

We know you’re ready for a safe and stress-free summer in Madison, Wisconsin — but is your car? If you’re not sure, Zimbrick can help. Follow these seven tips to make sure your car, truck, or SUV is prepared for the summer fun.

7 Car Care Tips for a Smooth-running Summer

Swap out your tires

Still riding around with snow tires? Are your treads worn? Now is a good time to replace your tires. Summer tires are designed for more efficient driving, so you can get where you need to go without added fuel costs.

Replace wiper blades

Summer rainstorms can hit hard, and heavy rains run the risk of reducing your visibility on the road. Consider replacing your wiper blades, especially if they haven’t been changed in awhile.

Check your A/C

It’s nice to roll down the windows and cruise with the summer wind in your hair every once in awhile, but you’ll probably start reaching for the A/C as the temperatures rise. If the air conditioning isn’t working well, bring your car to Zimbrick. We can keep you and your passengers comfortable during the hottest months of summer.

Fill up on fluids

Fluids are critical to maintaining your car. Top off the brake fluid, get an oil change, and inspect the car’s heating and cooling system. While you’re under the hood, check the radiators and hoses for damage. The last thing you want is for the engine to start overheating.

Get ready for towing

If you’ve got your sights set on camping trips and outdoor adventures, make sure your car, truck, or van is equipped for towing. Read up on weight limits and inspect your trailer. That way, you’ll know you can tow your four-wheelers, lake essentials, and more with ease.

Replenish your emergency supply

You should always keep emergency supplies in your vehicle, but you’ll definitely want to replenish your stash in time for summer. Keep a first aid kit, flashlight, basic tools, jumper cables, a blanket, spare clothes, flares, and anything else you might need.

Keep an eye on your brakes

Brakes generally last for 50,000 miles or so, but you’ll want to pay careful attention to them in the summer months. Hot weather can cause brake pads to wear down faster, so visit us if you suspect a problem.

May is National Pet Month, and at Zimbrick, we understand that your furry friends are part of the family. Sometimes that means bringing them along on your road trips. While there’s nothing better than enjoying time away with man’s best friend, it’s important to be fully prepared — your pet may not like your ride quite as much as you.

Following our first collection of driving tips for you and your pet, here are four more driving tips for traveling safely with your pup as a passenger.

How to Drive Safely With Your Dog

Feed Fido before you depart

Dogs can get carsick, too. That’s why it’s important to provide your pet with a meal roughly three to four hours before you embark on your adventure. Try to keep it light and, if possible, avoid feeding your dog while you’re on the road in order to prevent unwanted messes. But don’t hesitate to stock up on food in case you have to make an unexpected long-term stop.

Read up on local laws about driving with pets

Although Wisconsin hasn’t enacted any laws directly regarding pets in the vehicle, remember that certain states have. If you’re traveling between states, make sure you check up on each state’s laws so you’re prepared to follow them when you cross the border.

Take frequent breaks

Many pets are hesitant to take brief trips in the car, let alone lengthy rides down the freeway. That’s why it’s smart to take advantage of rest areas, where you’ll be able to stretch your legs as you let your pet release their pent-up energy and answer the call of nature.

Talk to your vet before the trip

Visiting your veterinarian ahead of the ride is never a bad idea. If your dog is prone to car sickness, your vet may prescribe medications to help make the ride more bearable for everyone involved.
