All SERVICE POSITIONS REQUIRE:
A valid driver’s license and good driving record (most positions) Must be 18 years or older unless participating in the Youth Apprentice or Work Study Program
Service support positions are trained on the job for their specific duties and typically have no training or experience in the field. These roles are opportunistic for anyone looking to enter the automotive industry. Responsibilities include: Welcoming and directing clients; Inspecting vehicles for damage and service needs; Moving vehicles in/out of the service drive; Wash/dry and vacuum vehicles; Pull vehicles up front at time of delivery; Maintain loaner/demo vehicles; Perform light maintenance on vehicles including tire pressure, fluids, etc.; Assist with dealership lot and service area maintenance/cleanliness; Continuously look for areas of improvement (cleaning/organizing/etc.) throughout dealership; Other duties as assigned.
Automotive apprentices are trained to become professional technicians and typically have no training or experience in the field. While apprentices gain the same general skills in each dealership program, it is important to note that there are several types of programs within Zimbrick. Regardless of the program, those who finish have the necessary experience to begin a career as a technician. Automotive apprenticeships generally begin with a basic introduction to vehicle service under the direct supervision of the master technician. Apprentices start with tasks such as vehicle maintenance and multipoint inspections. New apprentices also gain familiarity with the basic routines and practices of the workshop in which they are working. From there, they will advance to in-depth, handson training working with every part of a vehicle. Apprentices can also expect to spend a significant amount of their time on diagnostic training and learning to perform troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical and drivability issues.
Entry Level Technician
An entry-level automotive technician is trained to perform diagnostic tests on vehicles as well as repair, maintain, and perform routine inspections. Preferred qualifications would be a postsecondary/vocational degree in automotive technology combined with 1 year of work experience. Qualified candidates will have mechanical aptitude, strong computer literacy, competency with a variety of tools, including specialized diagnostic equipment as well as standard hand tools, as well as strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills. This position typically begins on an hourly pay rate rather than flat rate. We want to stress quality work over speed. Our goal is to advance this technician to the next level in one year or less.
Intermediate Level Technician
An intermediate automotive technician performs diagnostic tests on electrical and mechanical systems to determine the source of problems. They perform all auto repairs and advanced diagnostic work. Ability to perform drive line, engine repair, steering/suspension, minor recalls, etc. and interact with customers occasionally. Qualified candidates will additionally have strong computer literacy as well as strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills. Preferred qualifications would be a postsecondary/vocational degree in automotive technology combined with 2+ years of work experience. This position may begin on an hourly or flat rate pay scale.
Experieince Flat Rate Technician
An experienced flat rate technician functions as a skilled-level technician who can perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, typically involving complex, unusual or specialized technical work. They are competent in safety recalls, service campaigns, and road tests with customers. They perform a full range of automotive assignments using independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations. They provide direction to other members of the service department as needed. This level of technician is typically a leader in the shop and operates without much guidance. Preferred qualifications would be a postsecondary / vocational degree in automotive technology combined with 5+ years of work experience.
Master Technician/Team Leader/Shop Foreman
This position ensures that repairs are performed correctly and efficiently by qualified technicians and that the service department maintains a consistently high level of customer satisfaction. They will act as a consultant for diagnostic work, vehicle repairs, and procedures as well as provide leadership and direction to other members of the service department. They will spend the majority of time diagnosing and repairing highly complex and unusual problems and will be expected to uphold the highest ethical standards. Other duties may include inspecting repair equipment, overseeing and signing off on repairs completed by other technicians, dispatching, scheduling and training new technicians. Preferred qualifications are 10+ years of work experience. This position may have a range of pay types dependent on the specific workshop.
Service Advisor/Consultant
This position acts as the liaison between customers and the service technicians. They are responsible for building strong customer relationships and selling the technicians' time. They greet and consult customers on service needs, perform a thorough vehicle walk around inspection and recommend needed services. They gather information regarding warranties and other coverage and create work repair orders to communicate this to the technicians. They keep customers updated on services, field all live service calls, and take ownership of the customers' experience by carrying out those additional assignments that allow the dealership to leave an impressionable experience with the customer. Preferred qualifications are a general knowledge of vehicle mechanics, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate well with customers and employees.
Service BDC / Assistant / Digital Service Advisor
This position will assist the organization by assisting service customers over the phone and online. Their duties include: answering incoming calls and scheduling service appointments, making courtesy outbound calls to clients (no solicitation), responding quickly to the internet, phone, and live chat inquiries using email, phone and live chat templates, provide customers with initial product and dealership information and direct them to the appropriate dealership resources. This position is an opportunity to start your career in the retail automotive business and familiarize yourself with the entire dealership experience. Preferred qualifications are strong interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask and 1+ year of customer service or call center experience.
Parts Associate / Counter Specialist
This position is responsible for ordering and selling a variety of vehicle parts and accessories. Their duties include: providing advice to customers, taking orders from customers, collaborating with other employees including technicians and service advisors, maintaining inventory and documentation. They will need excellent customer service skills as they will be working with customers both face to face and over the telephone. They will be extremely well organized and able to work under pressure, whilst maintaining good attention to detail. Strong computer literacy along with the ability to source parts across many franchises and platforms is also needed. Preferred qualifications are a general knowledge of vehicle systems, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate well with customers and coworkers.
Service Manager
This position leads the day-to-day operations for the Service Department while offering leadership and direction to the service staff. This position is responsible for the reputation, efficiency and profitability of the department while providing an exceptional customer experience. Duties include staffing, training, cost control, forecasting, marketing, achievement of objectives, maintenance and safety, manufacturer requirements, payroll, and department growth. Competencies include a general knowledge of vehicle mechanics, robust service department operations comprehension, strong interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. Preferred qualifications are 5-10 years of automotive service experience. This position may have a range of pay types dependent on the specific workshop.
Parts Manager
This position is a leadership role overseeing the day-to-day operations of a parts department. This involves ensuring parts inventory is maintained at an appropriate level to increase service department efficiency and customer satisfaction. Duties include management of staff, inventory supervision, ordering and obsolescence as well as meeting manufacturer requirements, pricing and marketing, completion of all required documentation and accounting, cost control, forecasting, and maintenance and safety. Many also serve as sales representatives for auto parts vendors and wholesale accounts, requiring customer service skills. Competencies include a general knowledge of vehicle mechanics in regards to parts, sound parts department operations comprehension, strong interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. Preferred qualifications are 5-10 years of automotive parts experience. This position may have a range of pay types dependent on the specific workshop.
Director
The position will lead the Parts and Service departments focusing on customer satisfaction and retention, employee development, process improvement, business development, and financial performance. Preferred qualifications are 5+ years' experience as a successful service/parts department manager, workshop foreman, or director.
