Ice Fishing

Who says extreme sports are only for the warmer months? Ice fishing in the nippy weather is a tradition for anglers and those who can’t stand to be kept indoors in Madison, Wisconsin. Bluegill, northern pike, panfish, and walleye all await to be reeled in when you partake in this wintertime classic.

Ice Skating

It just wouldn’t be winter in Dane County without ice skating with the family. There are a dozen facilities across Madison for you and yours to lace up and chisel out your best figure eight impressions. Elver, Tenney, and Vilas parks supply several activities and amenities at their rinks.

Skiing

Hitting the slopes is a favorite winter pastime for many. That’s why it’s a good thing that there are a variety of lodges and resorts within driving distance of Madison. Devil’s Head Resort boasts the capacity for 600 skiers, cross-country skiers, and snowboarders. It offers courses for beginners and seasoned skiers alike. Plus, it’s only an hour up the road from the Madison-Metro area.

Snowmobiling

If skiing or snowboarding don’t get your blood pumping enough, why not try your hand at snowmobiling? Dane County is home to over 500 miles of snowmobile trails that link to the greater Wisconsin statewide trail network. A scenic, sparkling white landscape is never more than a corner away.
